SLU Faculty of Forest Sciences joins Koli Forum

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Faculty of Forest Sciences has joined the Koli Forum Association. SLU is the first organization outside Finland to join Koli Forum, and the Association has a strong attempt to get more international visibility and outreach in the future. “The Nordic collaboration is increasingly important and SLU joining creates great possibilities for co-operation in the field of bioeconomy” the Secretary General of Koli Forum Pekka Leskinen says.

Koli Forum aims at bringing together businesses, policy makers and academia and supporting dialogue based on scientific knowledge. SLU will strengthen the scientific foundation of Koli Forum Association, providing important viewpoints from the state-of-the-art forest research in Sweden.

“The sustainable use of natural resources is a cornerstone of the Faculty of Forestry (SLU) strategy. As partner of Koli Forum, our faculty aims to contribute to the Forum´s knowledge-driven discussions. By becoming a member of the Koli Forum we also expect to be part of its extensive network of experts from different and complementary disciplines, which we foresee to offer excellent opportunities for exciting collaborations. We consider that the exchange of knowledge mediated by the Koli Forum to be of key importance in a global context where many challenges go beyond geographical borders.” Says Camilla Widmark, associate professor and Head of Department, Department of Forest Economics, SLU.

The Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences provides educational programmes and conducts research in four main locations in Sweden, the main part of the Faculty of forestry sciences is located in Umeå, but also in Uppsala and Alnarp. The faculty has a strong international position in forestry research, and it consists of 12 different departments or units.
