President and CEO, Natural Resources Institute Finland

Professor Mari Walls is President and CEO of the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke). The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) has been launched 1.1.2015 and is a merger of the former  research institutes MTT Agrifood Research Finland, the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla), the Finnish Game and Fisheries Research Institute (RKTL), and the statistical services of the Information Centre (Tike) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.

The task of the new research and expert organization Luke is to promote sustainable use of renewable natural resources, development of competitive business activities in the field of bioeconomy, societal well-being, and the vitality of rural areas.

 Prior to her current position, Dr Walls has worked as Director of Marine Research Centre (2009-2014) in Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE), Research Director and Programme Director of MTT Agrifood Research Finland (2006-2009), Professor in Biodiversity and Environmental Sciences at the University of Turku (2004−2005), Programme Director, University of Turku and Academy of Finland (1997−2003), and Head of Research in Maj and Tor Nessling Foundation (1995−1997).

Mari Walls holds the following concurrent confidential posts: Finnish Meteorological Institute, Chairman of the Board, 2015-, Research Council for Biosciences and Environment at the Academy of Finland, Member, 2010−2015, CSC Finland Ltd, Board member 2010-.
