Professor, Assistant Director, European Forest Institute, Finland

Dr. Lauri Hetemäki is Assistant Director at European Forest Institute (EFI), and Professor of Forest Sector Foresight at the University of Eastern Finland. He has a Ph.D. (Econ.) from University of Helsinki, and MA (Econ.) from University of Sussex, England. Before his current position, Hetemäki worked as a Head of Foresight and Policy Support programme at EFI, and as a Senior Researcher and Project Leader at the Finnish Forest Research Institute (Metla). His research interests are foresight studies, the global and regional outlook studies for the forest sector, forest products and bioenergy markets. Hetemäki has extensive experience in policy support work; e.g. in the European Parliament, and the Finnish Government and Parliament. Hetemäki is the Chief-Editor of EFI What Science Can Tell Us– series. He has published 180 publications, of which 29 peer reviewed scientific articles.
