Jorma Ollila started his career working several years in Citibank before joining Nokia, where he soon took over as the company’s CEO (1992). Under his lead Nokia transformed from an industrial conglomerate in a deep financial crisis into one of the world's leading manufacturers of mobile phones.

In 2006, Mr. Ollila stepped down as Chairman and CEO of Nokia – remaining as Chair for the corporation. In June 2006, he was appointed Chairman of Royal Dutch Shell, Europe’s largest oil group. Jorma Ollila is the first non-Dutch or non-British person to hold this position.

Jorma Ollila holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Helsinki (1976), a M.Sc. (Econ.) degree from the London School of Economics (1978), and a M.Sc. (Eng.) degree from the Helsinki University of Technology (1981). In 2003, he was elected an Honorary Fellow of the London School of Economics (LSE), and was awarded Honorary Membership of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) He has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from both the University of Helsinki and the Helsinki University of Technology.
