A WORD FROM THE SECRETARY GENERAL
The Koli Forum, a summit called to discuss the sustainable use of Europe’s natural resources, will take place in Finland on 22-24 October 2009. Among those defining the results of the Forum are Martti Ahtisaari, former Finnish President and Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; Loretta Dormal-Marino, Deputy Director General of the EC DG Agri; and former Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson.
The Koli Forum aims to become a pluralistic think tank for European opinion-leaders. The event strives for an informal atmosphere, where everybody can express their views freely, not feeling obliged to put forward the official opinions of the organisations they represent. For this reason the event is not completely open to the media and the Chatham House rule is applied.
Regardless of the limitations in publicity, we aim to serve the media and the general public as well as to disseminate the results of the Forum. Through the invited participants we strive to get our message across to various decision-making and discussion forums. We welcome active public discussion from the local level to the top of European decision making!
With best regards,
Timo Karjalainen

Secretary General, Koli Forum 2009
