Professor Emeritus, Former Director of the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics

Karl-Göran Mäler is the former Director of the Beijer International Institute of Ecological Economics and Professor in Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics. He holds a Master of Arts in Mathematics, Physics, Political Sciences, Statistics, and Economics and a PhD in Economics from the Stockholm University.  

Professor Mäler is considered as one of the pioneers in environmental economics. His current research interests are measurement of well being and economics analysis of complex dynamic ecological systems.

Professor Mäler is an elected Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. In 2005 he was awarded the European Lifetime Achievement Award in Environmental Economics.
